About

In 2020, I launched Ginja Snap out of my brother’s vintage store in North Philly. I had a simple yet bold idea: create an authentic ginger beverage with a taste you can feel. My passion for ginger was sparked by a health remedy for a sore throat I had in college. That remedy transformed into a mission to offer an alternative to the sugary, artificial ginger drinks I was seeing on shelves.

With no experience in the beverage industry but plenty of stubbornness, I began brewing my own ginger water. When the pandemic hit, I saw an opportunity to share this immunity-boosting drink beyond just family and friends. With plastic bottles and a cooler of ice, Ginja Snap was born.

Over the next five years, Ginja Snap grew through pop-ups, farmers markets, and wellness events, catching the attention of local media like Fox29’s Good Day Philly and the Philadelphia Business Journal. Ginja Snap was recognized nationally when I became a semi-finalist in Pharrell Williams’ Black Ambition Prize.

Ginja Snap grew from an idea into a movement. And I’m so glad you’re here – My name is Shaakira DeLoatch, and I’m proud to be the founder, operator, and owner of Ginja Snap.
