In 2020 I started a beverage business out of my brother’s vintage store in North Philly. Did I know what I was doing? Nope.. but with a lot of ginger and a little stubbornness, I bottled up an idea that’s been growing ever since. 

My love for ginger started in college, when I cured a sore throat with the magic rhizome. I started paying more attention to ginger beverages on the market. I noticed most ginger beverages were artificially flavored, sugary, carbonated or a combination of all three. I wanted something real, bold and actually good for you.

I started brewing my own batches of what I like to call ginger water. Then came the pandemic. I'm working at my brother’s vintage shop and knowing ginger’s immunity boosting health benefits, I thought it would be the perfect time to share my ginger water with people outside of family and friends. With some plastic bottles and a cooler of ice, Ginja Snap was born.

Over the next five years Ginja Snap began to grow through pop-ups, farmers markets, and wellness events. I’ve been on Fox29’s Good Day Philly, featured in the Philadelphia Business Journal and even made it into Pharrell Williams’ Black Ambition accelerator. 

Ginja Snap wasn’t just an idea anymore, it was a movement.

My name is Shaakira DeLoatch and I am the sole founder, operator and owner of Ginja Snap. Being a solo female entrepreneur in a new industry looks like solving a new challenge everyday. It's not easy, but I’m dedicated. I made it this far and now I’m asking you to help me raise $25,000 to take Ginja Snap to the next stage. The money raised from this campaign will go directly to scaling Ginja Snap’s production.
